The high rate of alcohol consumption in our society is responsible for a large number of emergency admissions in both specialized care and primary care atention1. Alcohol consumption is not only an important medical problem for patient heath, but also may have legal implications in certain situations.

Measuring blood alcohol levels should be performed mainly in two situations2:
  • Patients with altered consciousness level of unknown causes
  • Patients with injuries related to traffic accidents or other causes with legal implications
